One Voice

Posting a song a day has kept me from writing other things.  There are many topical issues that I should write about.  No background checks for gun purchases?  What is wrong with this picture?  And the NRA feels persecuted!  Mark (Appalachian Trail) Sanford seems poised to win the first district seat in the special congressional election here in SC.  My kids are coming home from college.  My dog is not long for this world.  Heidi is beautiful and brilliant.  There are so many other things to write about.  But taking a month off of the head and heart stuff is good for me.  Thinking of music and connections to it is cleansing.

This is a song I have taught my students over the past several years since The Wailin' Jennies hit the scene.  They sing it loud and proud.  When we learn songs in my classroom, I usually begin with the lyrics.  We look at the chart first.  "What do you think?" is the question to begin the analysis.  The children usually come up with the theme of unity - that we are better when we are together.  

To me it is about being an individual but wanting to belong to others and share experiences.  It is simple, but elegant in its simplicity.
