I know this is far different from being a vile racist, but still - it was Harper Lee. How could someone create Atticus and Gem and Scout and be a jerk? A few years ago we bought my mom a copy of Mockingbird. It was a new biography of Harper Lee. I was careful not to read or even ask her about it.
